The BC Curriculum is a guiding document for all of todays teachers. Core Competencies are tied in throughout the curriculum and education of students at all ages. The curriculum model allows for teachers to meet the expectations through ways that are personalized to their classrooms and students, allowing for the teachers unique interests and passions to come through alongside that of their students. The curriculum sent outs the pieces that are expected of students, and therefore expected of teachers to teach and equip students to be successful in: Content – what students are expected to know, Curricular Competencies – what students are expected to do, Big Ideas – what students are expected to understand. These guiding principles then allow a teacher to find creative and cross-curricular ways to meet these learning expectations. Throughout the whole curriculum are the Indigenous World Views and Knowledge incorporation – this is important in our teaching and for our students today as all Canadians strive to live into the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and in working towards having students graduate as education citizens. The BC Curriculum is an inspiring guiding document with room for even more inspiration as teacher dive into teaching it!
