The Professional Standards for BC Educators guides both the training of teachers and expectations of employed educators. These standards outline how students deserved to be treated, taught, and honoured in the midst of todays education system. Educators are expected to be life long role models and mentors to their students and both be and show themselves as life-long learners. When I think of children wanting to be like the adults they look up to I am deeply reminded of how important it is to be the adult you’d want your own child to be modelling after. Education and our school are not just about the educators and the students but about the whole family; educators have a responsibility not only to communicate but also to welcome and encourage the evolvement of parents, guardians, family, and the wider community. Education influences not only the student but also the family and community. Educators engage in careful planning in order to meet their students needs, diversify their teaching, engage in teaching about and from the understanding of different cultures including curricula from the global, Canadian, First Nations, Inuit, and Metis perspectives. Educators incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and honour the history and experience of our First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people in Canada.
